Born in 1967 (Naarm/Melbourne), Karen is an Australian artist now based in Mandjoogoordap/Mandurah, Western Australia. Karen had always been fascinated by art, yet never took the step to create it herself until later in life. In 2018, she met members of the Mandurah Plein Air Artists (MPAA) group at the Stretch Arts Festival, who encouraged her to join and explore creating art in the outdoors. In 2020, desiring to return to study and explore creativity further, Karen enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts, studying Fine Arts and German Studies at the University of Western Australia, obtaining her degree in 2025. Exploring and experimenting with various mediums, techniques and methodology, Karen’s artistic journey moved away from figurative and landscape artworks towards more abstract and expressive styles. Discovering a fascination for the interplay between artist, watercolour, inks and paper, she has recently developed a process-based approach, incorporating these materials with additional elements of movement, and randomness to create unexpected and unforeseen outcomes.
